How to Prepare Your Kids for Back-to-School After a Year at Home
It’s back to school season and while my kiddos are SO excited to get back in the classroom this year, we know how much has changed and how different this start of the year feels compared to all the others.
Last fall, my kids were still doing Zoom school and remote learning. It wasn’t until a few weeks before summer vacation that they were back in the classroom with a hybrid schedule and outdoor classes. Virtual school brought so many challenges and during all the excitement about being back IN PERSON, as a mama I want what’s best for my kiddos and I’m making sure I do everything I can to keep their bodies healthy, strong, and well-protected.
My first form of defense and protection to my kid’s health? The food they eat and their daily nutrients.
The food we eat is our first form of defense, medicine and support. When you choose whole, real foods you are supporting your whole health. I fuel my body with smoothies, salads, broths, grains, veggies and SUPERFOODS (the most efficient + effective way to restore the body) every day. I also support my kiddos and our whole family with daily vitamins and a little extra support.
WHY VITAMINS + EXTRA SUPPORT?
From stress to toxins and EVERYTHING ELSE, your body goes through strain and we need to find more ways to help support it. I’m all about the magic of superfoods + supplements and making it a priority to incorporate them into my daily life. Finding ways to transform a simple smoothie or a leafy green salad into a high-vibe, potent meal is what I’m all about. It's what keeps me energized and balanced as I try to conquer a million things throughout my day.
This goes for my kids too. They have been having superfoods since they were babies and as soon as I came across an incredible gummy vitamin by Yumi made from whole food nutrients I knew I had to jump on it before the school year started. I love how they make a perfect addition to the rest of our holistic family lifestyle. I am pretty picky about the quality of vitamins - especially for my kids - and was thrilled about the launch of these new gummy vitamins made for toddlers, kids, and adults.
Besides these magical daily vitamins here are some other ways we’re preparing for back to school after a year at home.
Creating a loose structure and routine
We are waking up at our usual school time, eating breakfast and getting ready for the day - no matter what the day looks like. Having an intentional morning routine not just for myself but aso for my kids creates better days and less tantrums. It’s all energy!
Daily vitamins
Everyone needs their share of nutrients, especially growing kids! For example, vitamin A is essential for healthy vision, bone develop and a strong defense system against infections and vitamin D builds strong teeth and bones, aids in the absorption of minerals like calcium, and regulates the immune system, cell growth, and insulin production. It’s hard to make sure your kids get enough of their vitamins through food alone so integrating a gummy vitamin into their daily routine helps them get what they need
The organic Multivitamin Biteamin by Yumi provides 21 key vitamins and minerals from 15 whole vegetables and fruits and is made with no sugar added. It’s packed with two nutrients, iron and vitamin D, which are the two most common vitamin deficiencies in children. They taste yummy and look like candy so my kids LOVE taking them each morning.
Let the kids lead
With all the new changes and school rules regarding hygiene and social distancing, we’re checking with our kids on what they should do and let them lead the conversation. It helps keep them engaged and gives them more control in the process.
Prioritize SLEEP
Sleep is so necessary during these changes and challenges. A good night of sleep helps keep stress hormones in check and supports the immune system. If your kiddos have trouble sleeping, help their bodies prepare for sleep with breathing techniques, reading or meditation.
A spoonful of raw superfood honey a day keeps the flu away!
The moment you or your kids feel a scratchy throat, try Philosophie Green Bee Honey or Berry Bee Honey (loaded with extra vitamin C) to lubricate the throat and boost your immune system with superfoods and adaptogens to heal you quickly.
CELEBRATE
Celebrate the start of back to school with new outfits and new backpacks. Ask your kids what they’re most excited for and if they are worried about anything. Have an open conversation and let them know how proud you are of them. We’ve all come so far and it deserves to be celebrated.
